Today, my garden, Kapellen, Belgium. I noticed this one while it was hanging on a leaf and shaking its whole body. Tipulidae or something else? Possible to go further? Thanks in advance!

This is a member of the Limoniidae family.

Thanks a lot, Andre! Which charachteristics are needed to get to genus/species?

Take a closer look at the antennae. Very caracteristic.
Each flagellomere is triangular or cone-shaped. This points in the direction of Rhipidia.
At this time of year a good choice would be Rhipidia maculata. I have seen quite a few in Denmark this autumn.
But there might be other possible Rhipidia sp. in Belgium!

Great, Walther! An online checklist for Belgium mentions R. uniseriata, R. ctenophora, R. duplicata and R. maculata. Can you eliminate some of these?
