Hello,

12th October, my garden near Lincoln UK. ~7mm

I don't usually see any Bibionidae at this time of year.

Do you have photos of it's front tibia?

Sorry, no I don't. It disappeared and I found it later in a cobweb so I tried to pull the web from it's hind leg, I think I almost achieved that then it fell into the plants so that was that!

It is indeed either clavipes or lepidus
The shape of the stigma is characteristic and very well visible in the pictures.
However, I am currently to lazy to remember which way around it was.....
Google my key from 10 years ago (plus ?)

Theo, I found the link to your key in a google search, it was on a thread on this site. I can't get that, I had it in my favourites but it doesn't load. I searched this site and found it again in the downloads, still I get a message 'page not found'. :|

It wouldn't have helped, since I just noticed I lumped clavipes and lepidus at that time.

In any case: I had a good sleep, so not lazy any more:

it is lepidus !
