is it an Empididae and may be a Rhamphomyia sp ?
shot in april 25 2010, Loire-atlantique, western France.

Long proboscis makes me suspec
Empis.
Geranium flower makes me wonder whether it might be a male
Empis pennipes (without being able to check a key, atm).
