Hi,
can anyone suggest a species this 6mm fly?
I take the photo on 1 August 2010 Kokkola, Finland.

Katka Dvorakova might say more, as the photos are good!

According to my key this goes to
Meiosimyza illota, if the wing apex can be interpreted as darkened.

Hi KWQ
What key are you using?
I would like to see a better picture of the bristles on the thorax?

In this case I used Bei-Bienko's "Keys to the Insects of the European part of the USSR", the magnificent fruit of transatlantic co-operation during the cold war era:).
But I've also got Shatalkin's paper. That one contains so many species that I don't always resort to it.

Many thanks
I have been using Collins rather old Key with mixed success, I have the Shatalkin Key on order. Sadly the Bei-Bienko books are out of print.
I am on the lookout for "Papp, L. 1978a. Contribution to the revision of Palaearctic Lauxaniidae (Diptera)" & "Papp, L. 1984. Lauxaniidae (Diptera), new Palaearctic species and taxonomic notes" if anyone knows of any copies?

If anyone could confirm them I would be very grateful.

I totally agree (using Shatalkin's key) that this is M.illota.

I have Laci's paper. Are you still looking for it? I only have a hard copy. If you want to have I will have to scan it. We have since last week a new scanner; I didn't try it yet and I certainly will not try it before the weekend. Let me know if you still need it.

Hi.
M. illota or M. mihalyii! Females are not differentiable. The mark with costal darkness (in Shatalkins key) is not valid. The both species have darkened costa.
