Eyes in life- unbanded
Eyes bare and unbanded, broad frons, oval median callus suggests
Tabanus cordiger?
Again, this species is not listed either on Fauna Europaea or Fauna Italia (for the whole of Italy despite Fauna Italia's 22
Tabanus sp. !)

Looks like a perfect cordiger female to me, if the eyes were really unbanded

cordiger has been listed by Chvala et al as early as 1972 and I have seen other specimens from Italy (yet unpublished, wait half a year for the details !).
