Wood pasture, 790m altitude, Macomer, Sardinia
22nd May 2010, size 18mm
Eyes in life- unbanded, dark green/brown
Other individuals taken at sea-level with brackish conditions
Size plus pattern on abdomen suggests
T. autumnalis.
Found throughout Europe, though the Fauna Italia site has 22
Tabanus sp. for Italy it does not list
autumnalis!

don't worry, this is autumnalis and if autumnalis is not on the Italian list (i did not check), then there is somehting terrribly terribly wrong with such a list...
