Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Hoverfly for ID

Can anyone help ID this one. It was the only one of its species around and I spent some 20 minutes trying to photograph it - the darn thing just would not settle:S. The white band on its abdoment was extremely obvious in flight which told me that I had not seen one before.

Thank you Mark. Not much info about these on the web. Today is the first day I have found these. I did not see any when visiting Creech Woods, Denmead over the last week.

There were plenty on Selborne Common on Saturday. I had seen then there last year, but this was the first time I could get one in the net. not easy to get close too.
Don't confuse with
Leucozona glaucia which has an all yellow scutellum.

Thanks. I only have taken images of 22 Hoverfly species. Something like another 50 for me to find in the UK;)
