As a matter of fact, this one is in family Tipulidae. The last segment of the palp is longer the the first 4 segment put together. Here is a simple key to tell the two families apart.

If this one is in Tipulidae family, with the black stripes on the thorax, It can only be Nephrotoma. The only Nephrotoma in the Netherlands without black markings on the pleurae is N.scurra.

I am quite convinced this is not N.scurra.

Any other suggestions?

Hi Andre, thanks for bringing my attention to this fly. I took a close look of the wing and the Rs is too long to be Nephrotoma . While looking the wing I noticed that the wing venation of this fly actually more looks like the fly in the family Cylindrotomidae. I am sorry that I am not familiar with the crane fly fauna of Europe, if you know the species of Cylindrotomidae you may want to take a look of the species list and see if this fly fits any of them.

If I follow Stubbs key for Cylindrotomidae, it brings me to Cylindrotoma distinctissima.
This is the only Cylindrotomidae in the Netherlands with Discal cell with 4 veins distally. (=4 veins leaving appical part of Discal cell)

I did a quick check online and ran into this link and I think your suggestion of Cylindrotoma distinctissima is quite likely true for this fly.
