Hi,
this fly was sitting quite high up in a tree, t4 I could only take a pic
from this perspective. Is it sufficient to determine the id?

It looks like a Thereva female, and a better expert than I am should be able to give you a species ID for it...

Martin is being his usual modest.
I see no reason why this is not Th. nobilitata.
Since we cannot see the colour of the halteres, this call is not 100 % sure.
