Hi,

fly with distinct red scutellum. 6,6mm long and found yesterday July 15. 2010 Loviisa, Finland

It's hard to make out much but have you tried Aplomya confinis? Can we see the abdomen a bit better? :)

Yes, female Aplomyia confinis comes in mind

They have that 4th/5th tergite length feature ... and mine here all have a really distinctive & peculiar shiny, black coloration to tergite-5 ... almost like obsidian.

Yes but colouration is sexual dimorph, in the female the obsidian tergite 5 is lacking
