My garden, Kapellen, Belgium. Is
Tipulidae correct and is genus or even species possible? Thanks in advance.

Genus
Tipula should be ok. It is a male, so if we had a close-up of the genitalia and of the thorax there would be a chance to get closer. However, our only Tipulid expert, Chen Young, sits in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania...

Thanks for the genus and I will remember to take a close-up of those parts next time I see one.

I am going to take a risk and put this male in
Tipula (Vestiplex) group.

Thank you very much for taking the risk! There are 6 species in this group that are at my list (
arctica, excisa, fernandezi, hortorum, nubeculosa and
scripta).
