Hello!
This only 4-5 mm measuring fly from our housewall last night (northwest Germany) looks very much like the
Frauenfeldia rubricosa in the gallery to me. Could it be that genus?

Tricogena rubricosa gets my vote as well. Seen this species first time myself this summer, but seems "häufig" in also here Hessen.

It has been argued that Trichogena should have priority, if I remember correctly both names are from the same year. In any case, as known I dislike Rondanian misspellings.

Trichogena just a typo, or do you mean
Tricogena is a misspelling?

Tricogena is older than Frauenfeldia and therefore has priority. Rondani names very often suffers from misspellings and problems stemming from subsequent emendations. In this case, Rondani (1856) provided two original spellings for this genus-group name: Tricogena and Tricogenia. Neave (1950) selected Tricogena as the correct original spelling. The spelling Trichogena is a later emendation by Bezzi & Stein (1907) and is unjustified. Therefore, the correct spelling is Tricogena.

Thomas uses the term 'correct spelling' in the nomenclatoral sense. And he is right.
I used the term in a linguistic sense: Rondani should have written Trichogena (but he didn't....)
I am still considering what penalty Rondani should get
