I found this poor muscid impaled on a blackberry thorn (I think the culprit was a shrike). Is it possible to identify it?

Actually Rui it could have flown into the thorn itself. I've seen a Chloromyia formosa impale itself on a Spear Thistle. This looks way too neat for a shrikes work. I think it simply didn't see the fine end of the thorn and flew straight into it. :o

Rui. I know, but I watched it happen. I didn't have a camera with me unfortunately. The person I was with took a photo of the struggling fly, but never sent me the pic.
