Who is here?
Hello together,
i take the picture of these fly in 21 June 2010 Kokkola / Finland.
It is about 15 mm long. I search the name.

if this is bombus then it does not fit into diptera, fits into hymenoptera(sibbling of diptera)/apidae (as far as I know).
Doh, the antenae are the kind I havent seen on bombus.

Volucella bombylans... Am I right in seeing it is ovipositing?

Ahh sorry. Translating that text there for you:
Body length 11 - 17 mm. Volucella bombylans mimics mostly
Bombus terrestris and rarely B. lapidarius, hence it appears in many forms.
