Hi,
in the forest yesterday I was sure I have
Eurithia anthophila in my net, but now I can see I was wrong. Any idea Chris ? June 17. 2010 Loviisa, Finland

Thank's again. I have
Ernestia rudis but it has no yellow on sides of abdomen. Maybe this one is one of the two others we have.

Yeah, it should be fairly easy to key once you know it is
Ernestia ... but the first couplet asks about black hairs behind the ocular row and whether it has hairs on the parafacial so I wasn't 100% sure on either of those :) It seemed to run to
rudis fairly easily though is you try it with a bare parafacial, eye hairs yellow and crossed apical scutellars. I think the yellow side patches on most tachinids are a bit variable even on the same species.

It is rudis alright, sexual dimorph and moreover variable
I have never seen vagans with reddish side marks and it clearly is not laevigata
