I'm sorry I have no picture to show, but maybe someone can help from my description:

I was in Cheshire, England yesterday on a lawn near trees and saw what at a distance I thought might be something like a male Leucophenga. It settled briefly on my black shirt (concert dress!) but I had no camera and nothing to collect in. It was 3-4mm long, the thorax covered in long thick white fur and the greyish abdomen with a fringe of the same thick fur. The wings (I could only see one pair) were rather round in outline with no obvious scales or hairs, and without colour. The flight was a drifting hover, presumably a sexual display, over the open lawn 10-15m from the trees. I only saw one, which I watched for several minutes.

Any (polite please, Roger ;)) suggestions welcome!

Hi, maybe Phyllaphis fagi? Eriosoma sp? Anyway, seems to be a wooly aphid.
