Thanks, I assume there is no point in posting female Bibionids then? I have a somewhat lateral shot if it could help.

There is not point in posting smaller Bibio females, as far as I am concerned. Of course, some species, often the larger ones like anglicus, hortulanus, venosus, pomonae and also leucopterus and marci can be easily recognized.
As reticulatus in some cases.
However, the fast majority of smaller females will be lanigerus / johannis / varipes.
I can tell them apart in most cases when collected, but otherwise....
