May 20, 2010, near Vostochnyi settlement, Naro-Fominsk district, Moscow region, Russia. A lot was collected on broad-leaved grasses (that's why I suggest this species name), wing length (male) around 2.5 mm. The 1st tarsal segment approx. 6 times shorter than the 2nd one, palpi 4-segmented. Unfortunately, all these silvery-white scales are lost in collected specimens.
May 28, 2010: Subject changed from
Nice Cecidomyiidae (Lasioptera calamagrostidis?)

Identified as
Lasioptera hungarica Moehn, 1968 by Dr. Marcela Skuhrava (Praha). A new record for Russia. As Mrs. Skuhrava writes,
Larvae of this gall midge species develop inside the stem of Phragmites australis, they live there gregariously hidden inside the stem and their damage is not visible (they do not cause any gall). We studied the morphology and biology of this species, together with other gall midge species associated with Phragmites australis, in the framework of the International Biological Programm in the Czech Republic in which the model plant species was Phragmites australis (=P. communis). Results were published in our article: Skuhrava M.& Skuhravy V. 1981: Die Gallmuecken (Cecidomyiidae, Diptera) des Schilfes (Phragmites communis Trin.). Studie CSAV 3, Academia, Praha, 150 pp.
The genitalia.

Very nice spcies and documentation! I also plan to investigate some of my collected gall midges as soon as I buy a better microscope, maybe next winter.
