Hi,
here is a bigger one. I can take more pictures, if I just know what is needed. May 12. 2010 Helsinki, Finland.

If it's a male I suggest preparing the male genitalia :D Also, how big is it and can we see a dorsal view and a good view showing the depth of the gena vs eye height? :)

The fly is in acetone just now, so I will take more pictures tomorrow. It's a larger one, maybe 10mm.

It's looking a bit
Phorocera-ish but it might just be the angle that is confusing me ... but the male genitalia look big and could be distinctive :)

Yes, I believe this is indeed
Phorocera obscura. I emptied jus my malaise and there were four more of these. Large black genitals and white beard.

Here some more pictures. All my Phorocera are dark and this one has bright orange triangulars on side of abdomen.

I would just compare the genitalia to known
Phorocera - they are quite distinctive :)

It is Phorocera, not obscura but assimilis
Nomen est omen....

Thank You Theo. We have
assimilis in our list but no specimens in our database (so far :)) This must be a bit better species in Finland I believe. I think I have two or three like this among dozens of
obscura.
