Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Anthomyiidae? Hylemya nigrimana?

Is this small fly an Anthomyiidae - maybe Anthomyia sp. rather than a Muscid? Anal vein 1 does seem to reach the wing margin faintly... if that is the key character??

This fly was raising its wings repeatedly in a flicking action, maybe a form of courtship display.

Wiltshire southwest UK 6.5.10

Once I had a rather similar fly (http://www.dipter...d_id=19675) that was identified as Hylemya nigrimana. However, I do not dare to say yours is the same species. We need experts' help...

Yes, thanks, it certainly looks very like your images, with similar leg colour, though I dunno if there are other crucial characters to look for. Hopefully some expert eyes will glance at this! These flies were around 9mm I think.
