hi, see
CULICOMORPHA

- Chironomoidea (less veins at the wing apex)
--- Chironomidae http://www.dipter...to_id=5828
--- Ceratopogonidae http://www.dipter...to_id=3730

- Culicoidea (more veins)
--- Culicidae http://www.dipter...to_id=5888
--- Chaoboridae http://www.dipter...to_id=5894

The body is more similar between Chiro and Chaoboridae, but wing venation is very similar between Culicidae and Chaoboridae :)

Thanks Pacqui and Tony - ahh Tony - you will be surprised at how many Ephydrids I caught yesterday - half a dozen yellow pans floating at the edge of the lake for a couple of hours - many repeats but still a few species I expect. Still you will see in June or July. Have you finished the book yet?
