Not a lot happening on the fly front here with snow showers and cold winds, but I did spot this little fly 3+mm sitting on a fence in the garden. Afraid the photo's are a bit duff, but I am assuming it is Sphaeroceridae and the only brownish coloured one I can see in the Gallery is Rachispoda lutosa and was wondering if this could at least be of the same family.

Rachispoda appears to be correct but based on these pictures it cannot be ID-ed to species level. However, lutosa is the commonest of the species, also up North.

Thanks once again Paul
I realisede the photo's were not very good to be able to go any further than genus level, so Rachispoda sp. is good enough. Another unrecorded genus for Shetland :)
