Does anyone here have suggestions concerning the identity of this fly? (photographed this morning in a sunny wetland on sandy ground in the northern Netherlands, sunbathing on the bark of a birch tree)

Looks like
Phorocera obscura but let's wait for Theo or Jaakko ;)

Thanks a lot!
I was wondering if there would be a possibility of distinguishing
Phorocera obscura from
P. assimilis in photos of this quality. I even find it difficult to exclude
Smidtia conspersa. I attach another photo, which perhaps can help.

I agree,
there it little to go on, but given the elongated abdomen, hairy eyes, bristles on face, ...
it should be Phorocera obscura (obscura since the scutellum is dark).

Thank you very much! It is great to slowly learn what exactly to look for.
