Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Bibio johannis male

I don't have a key to Bibionidae so wonder if anyone can help with this male, is it marci? Large numbers appearing in last few days.

No, B. marci is completely black. Black hairs and reddish legs point to B. johannis, but see also http://www.dipter...d_id=20163. The hind tarsi are not seen well, however, the shape resembles B. johannis rather than B. femoralis.

Thanks, yes the hind metatarsus does look more like johannis doesn't it.
