Paul, You confirm the genus?

General build is more reminiscent of
Drosophila but I do not know any European
Drosophila (nor species in other genus, but I needed to check for
Chymomyza) with just such single, large marking in the wing. Did you collect it?

The species is Drosophila (Sophophora) suzukii Matsumura,1931, a male (female has unspotted wings). The species is probably originally Oriental, but it is also known from Japan, Russian Far East, Hawaii, North and South America and several localities in Europe (Spain, France). In North America, where it is called "dragon fruitfly", it is harmful in orchards - in contrary to "usual" drosophilids the female is able to break through the skin of healthy cherries by its dentate egg-guides.
In Europe it was first collected in Spain 2008 and again the last year; Spanish collectors found this specis also at Montpellier, 2009, and I collected it in 2009 in Alpi Maritimes - close to Provence where it has been recently photographed. A short paper on the occurence of D. suzukii in Europe is still in preparation. For that reason, please consider my reply as preliminary personal information.

What is the exact locality of the picture? It is clearly D suzukii and the location would be important

I collected a male yesterday in my garden, Belgium!
Jan, I am greatly interested in your paper on D.suzukii, if possible, can you send me the PDF?
Many thanks in advance
