Spotted what I thought was a midge yesterday but turned out to be a fairly bald moth fly. Do these gradually loose their "fur" as adults or are they different species (or both). last 3 shots are older moth fly shots with different levels of furriness. Actually looking at these again it does perhaps look like 3 different species

Yes they do lose scales over time: the top one is especially follicularly challenged. 2 and 4 are
Tinearia, but without a view of the genitalia I can't go futher. It's hard to say what the others are, without some sense of scale, but they are probably
Psychoda (or near offer).
