Can anyone confirm the genus of this small fly (maybe 5-6mm) from the Lonchaeidae family as Lonchaea? Possibly L. chorea ??

Photographed 26.6.09 in a Wiltshire garden.

Not so sharp, but here is a top view of the same Lonchaea sp? fly, taken 26.6.09 in Wiltshire.

Hi Nick

Yes it is a Lonchaeid, but with the relatively wide frons it is more likely to belong to the genus Dasiops rather than Lonchaea. With apparently all dark legs it may be D. perpropinquus or D. spatiousus??

Many thanks Iain, it's good to have some knowledgeable feedback. The Gbif database has a very few UK records for both these Dasiops species, 1 for D. perpropinquus and 4 for D. spatiosus but I don't know how common small flies like these need to be to pop up in the records frequently!
