Photographed on 22/7/2007 at Fontanigorda, Genoa, Liguria, Italy about 900 meters through woodland (chestnut, hazel, hornbeam).
can you identify?


this is my first post, I hope my English is understandable and that you understand how to attach pictures.

Prey appears to be a dancefly, probably Hybos.

I'm not a specialist of Asilidae, but the L-shaped postocular hair and the long ovipositor remind me of genus Neoitamus.

might be right. eg Neoitamus socius is very similar except for the color of the legs. I thought of Neomochtherus melanopus but I do not know if it can be a good hypothesis
