An interesting pink and white mosquito. Anyone have a name for it? 20 December 2009, Canberra.

Its possible its actually a chironomid midge, hard to tell exactly from the picture.

Trev - could be. I posted it on the off chance someone would know it as the pattern seems rather distinctive.

Posture seems typical for Culicidae and I think I can make out the proboscis...
