Found this in a pine forest above Sidhirokastro (nr Lake Kerkini) today 27-Dec-2009, it was with a number of flies that in my photos look a lot like the Heleomyzid
N. ruficeps that I posted from the dead dog, but it was much larger than them, more than twice as long. It jumped onto several of the Heleos - straddled them completely - like it wanted to mate - but they simply walked out from under it. It has spongiform mouth parts - not predatory P&S type.

It came back at least twice after being scared off - so it wasn't there by accident. It was 15C here at the time and the sun was nearly visible.

Yes Andrzej you're right, that fits the wing pattern and size, ;)now I wish I had caught it.:|
