Reddish femora and hairy parafacialia, is it also a female of
Macquartia viridana ? (Aywaille, Belgium, 20 November 2009)

Or a female
dispar. Another oddly late flier!

Thanks,
I first thought that it was impossible to see the difference between female
dispar and
viridana, but in this post
http://www.dipter...d_id=26660 Eric Steckx took pictures of a female
Macquartia at the same localisation than mine, 10 days later, and it was identified by Theo as
viridana because hairy parafaciala. What is the difference with mine ?
As I haven't seen the feature of hairy or bare parafaciala in the key, I've searched in the old post and found this one
http://www.dipter...d_id=13661 but it was said
Looks like some Macquartia (in which case dispar comes in mind, given the haired parafacialia), but not 100 % sure
. So :(
Could you help me ?

I'm having rather random excess at the side, so my responses may seem random.
Christine is perfectly right. Males and females (of Macquartia, that is) got mixed up in my head. Females of both are very similar indeed. This one, with a short prae-alar bristle, definitely would be dispar (so NOT viridana).
The other one might be both.
Still, an amazing find !!
Did you find them independently ?

Thanks Theo, so you don't use the parafaciala ?
We've seen those females independently. I took the picture of this female the 20 november and Eric the 30 november. It was at the same place, but not the same day.
I think I've taken others pictures of females
Macquartia the month before, but I must have a look in my pictures to be sure.
Am I right with the annotation of this picture showing the pre-alar bristle shorter than the distance between its base and the posteroir edge of the humeral callus.

-1) hairy parafacialia imply either dispar or viridana, excluding most/all other Macquartia.
-2) you did an excellent job on the prealar bristle and it seems to be small to me, if i'm not tricked by the picture
