Does this dolichopodid belong to the species Xanthochlorus tenellus?

I think yes. But after the paper;
Chandler P.J., Negrobov O.P. 2008. The British species of Xanthochlorus Loew, 1857 (Diptera, Dolichopodidae), with description of two new species. Dipterists Digest 15: 29-40,
I guess hundreds of
Xanthochlorus species inhabit Europe. Ask Chandler P.J. and Negrobov directly.

Is that intended as an ironic remark about species splitting or is it a serious note about a very complex genus?

Joke. Nevertheless, Europe is a champion by species numbers and a champion by synonyms.
