Hi,
I didn't manage to find its id. Even didn't find its family..:|
I only got one picture but would love to know its family and if possible a Genus and maybe a specie name ...
Taken in the local nature reserve, Gent, Belgium on the 19th of May..
Any help very much appreciated..:)

Unmistakable (once you know where to look for it :P):
Empis tessellata, female.

Oh, I would never had thought it was a female with its eyes so close together and even joining.
Must be one of these tricky exeptions then in that family....
Thanks Paul! :P

Oops, you are right. It's a male. Usually males of
tessellata do not have the tip of the abdomen bent to such an extent.

If my wings were that frayed, my abdomen would also probably be a bit bent...

If your wings were frayed you would have written an angelic message... :D Divine intervention, to say the least.
