Early May, dry grassland. Does
Lydina aenea look correct?

Certainly a possibility :) I don't see many of them but I did catch a few this year and they were all that greeny/black colour. If it keys confidently then it should be fine :)

Thanks for that Chris. It did key well, but I just found myself doubting the id! Always good to have an expert pass an eye over it anyway.

Well, I do a lot better with specimens than I do with photos - I don't have the familiarity of tachs that Theo or Jaakko have but I know the keys pretty well ;)

I think you can certainly trust your feeling on these fellows, Chris.
Lydina aenea should be ok.

The parafrontalia are characteristically blackish in Lydina, you can check, but I have little doubts too.
