Is this 10-12 mm fly a female Trixa caerulescens/alpina?
I had a male caerulescens at same place same day. Thread from 1 november

I don't think so - the head is too big, relative to the body :) I am sure someone else will have a name for it though :)

Thanks for your replies Chris and Theo.
When looking on the leaf it is sitting on my memory seems to be wrong. It must be smaller than 10 mm. Perhaps 6-7 mm.

The dusting pattern would fit
Medina (though I never seem to see them alive) but the original size put me off ... 6-7mm sounds a bit better for
Medina :)
