I believe these to be Bibio clavipes. But I'm sure they were all alive shortly before I took this photo. The two males were fighting, I think. Now one of them is obviously dead while the other male is mating with a female just next to him.
Size: ~5mm
Date: 17 October 2009
Location: On wooden railing around a pond (Helsingborg, Sweden)
Thanks!

Hi Lars,
Being in Sweden I suppose they heard Abba on the radio singing "The Winner Takes It All" and took it literally.
Maybe one of those insects that "play possum" to stop further injury or when they are danger..Vine Weevils do it.
Roger......;)
Looks like it's trying a bit of levitation.

:D I guess that's possible. There are apartment buildings near by and someone may have played music loudly :)

I've seen quite a few insects do that after my cat has "collected" them and played with them for a while. Very efficient tactics :)
