Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Bristly Fly

I am very much a beginner with identifying flies.
This one reminds me of photos I have seen of flies in the family Sarcophagidae. But then again, it also looks like images of Tachinid flies.
The fly landed on my hand and was very insistant about lapping up sweat. I took his picture with one hand, a difficult feat with a long heavy lens on!
Any guidance with ID appreciated.

Here's a dorsal view.

Well, my guess would be a Sarcophaga sp. or at least a sarcophagid :o)

I would say this is a tachinid, possibly genus
Phorocera.

I'm with Chris on this one, the general slim body shap and large pulvilli suggest a Sarcophagid.

I can see what Daniel is meaning but I don't see hairy eyes ... but, as this is from USA, it might be a tachinid :)

I would say Sarcophagidae too.

You're probably right. I didn't look closely enough, sorry! :|
