Small fly on ivy - 3-4mm I think [actually 2.5mm when I checked the photo]. It looks quite like Limnellia quadrata in the gallery.

Thank you Cranefly. There is a picture in the Gallery, and I'm not sure this one is good enough to add much information; but I'll submit it on your recommendation! [Now that I've checked the size, perhaps I didn't do too badly with the photo in the few seconds before it disappeared under the ivy!]
