Could it be a male of
Phania funesta ?
(about 5mm, Belgium, 9-9-2009)

We can't (I think) eliminate the remote possibility of
P.thoracica but it looks like
Phania funesta to me :)

Thanks,
I thought that the marginal bristles of tergite 3 and 4 were longer than those of
thoracica (in the gallery, the bristles of
thoracica seems to be shorter).
Chris or Theo, do you think it isn't possible to see the size of bristles on my pictures ?

As far as I can tell, the main vibrissa is too long for any Phania other than funesta.
Not an answer to your question, and yet again...
