Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Pelatachina tibialis (was Zeuxia subapennina?)

You guessed it ... another Bavarian tachinid (May 2001) that keys but I am not confident. Most Zeuxia have a long petiole but the Central European key says this species has R5 open or a very tiny petiole - and this specimen has R5 just closed on the margin.

My impression would have been Pelatachina tibialis...:)

Grrrr ... thanks. I wonder where I went wrong on that one :( I keyed an almost identical specimen to P.tibialis this morning too :)

I get complete determination fatigue when doing bigger amounts of specimens and start keying out absolutely weird stuff without noticing what went wrong. Then it's better to have a cold beer and keep a break for day or two...;)

Haha, very true - I tend to take breaks if I think it's getting too difficult. When I come back to it I usually find the right course but in this case I think I must have just followed the opposite couplet ... never mind - thanks again for steering me back on track ;)
