In northern Europe, I can recommend Skartveit (2004) (
http://www.entomo...ler_17.pdf, in Norwegian). For English keys covering the same area, see his keys for
Bibio (Skartveit 1995) and
Dilophus (Skartveit 1996), published in Fauna Norv. Ser. B.; see references in the aforementioned Norwegian key. The
Bibio and

There are spines halfway the fore tibiae, making it
Dilophus.

And the darkened wings makes it D. febrilis rightaway (females only)
