Neomyia cornicina (1 pair of presutural acrostichals and 3 postsutural dorsocentrals).
For
Neomyia viridescens you shouldn't have any presut. acr and 4 post dc.

Thanks Stephane
Will at least I got the
Neomyia bit right, which for me is a small victory.
This one is unrecorded previously in Shetland, the only one mentioned on my checklist is
Orthellia viridis Weid. which I think from a posting last year is the old name for
Neomyia viridescens?? which I thought might have been this fly. Even better to be a different one :)

Hi Roger, I found a couple of
Neomyia recently so had to sort through the names myself in trying to identify them. According to the the UK checklist (available online at Dipterists forum),
N.viridis Wiedemann is a synonym of
Neomyia cornicina - unless of course things are more complicated than I realise.

Thanks Tim
I checked the Diptrists forum and note there are 2 Syntypes from Shetland included also;
Neomyia fennica Frey 1909 (Chandler 1998) and
Psueudopyrellia fennica Frey 1909 (Chandler 1998) so is it any wonder I got it wrong. :|
Regards a confused Roger :|.
