Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Stratiomyidae - Sargus sp.

This one appears to key to either bipunctatus or flavipes, using Stubbs & Drake; abdomen looks blackish (with purple reflections) but hairs on top of thorax don't look black to me (as flavipes), the legs have too much dark for bipunctatus, I think. I'd be grateful for an expert opinion.

Looks like a female, and there is no sign of orange on the abdomen, so that should eliminate S bipunctatus.

Thanks Nigel. I'm happiest with flavipes, it was just that the hairs on the thorax looked a little pale, though I guess that could be due to back-lighting.
