Was visiting an old Pictish Broch with one of my grandsons when I came on this fly. Looking through the Gallery I see it is Calliphoridae..Bellardia.
There were two individuals on the plant, one about 6mm, and the other about 8-9mm. don't know which is which in these photo's but I think they were both males.
Got 2 species of Bellardia recorded in Shetland;
B.viarum and B.vulgaris. Is it possible to get to species on these? I noted that the ones in the Gallery are all Bellardia sp.

Ever Hopeful...Roger

Yes, looks like Bellardia.

Species very similar, sometimes genitalia required.
