I found this tachinid in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal on the 27th of June 2009. Looking at the drawings of the antennae of some species of this genus it seems that the choice is between P. setinervis and P. hertingi. The latter one has the antennal lobes very similar in size, could it be that species?

To me the antennal lobes look different sized, also the palps are wider than lower parafacial. My impression would be setinervis. The T1+2 should have only weak lateral marginal setae, hertingi has strong.

I have put a photo of hertingi to the gallery. You can see that at least in that specimen the lower antennal lobe is thinner and the parafacial wider than in yours.

Andersen (1996) states that setinervis is "not reaching Iberian Peninsula".

My specimen looks a little bit different from the one in your photo. So it really should be P. setinervis...

In my experience the key by Anderson for setinervis vs. hertingi does not work.
The females are clearcut.

So base ID on female or keep it at cf., is my current policy

Thanks for the tip Theo, need to check on this in the future. I only have two males, which fit Andersons key as hertingi.
