Hi,

I think this is correct, apparently a rare fly which I read only has about a dozen known locations since 1960!

Taken on 14th June 2009 a few miles south of Lincoln near my garden.

I have large original pics if Chris wants them.

Janet :)

Yes, that's Mintho rufiventris alright - nice sighting :) I'd certainly like the record data - like grid reference etc - for the recording scheme.

It's fairly uncommon and I certainly haven't seen one in the wild - but you could say the same about a lot of tachinids! ;) But records do crop up randomly across central/southern England every year. But, like so many tachinids, we really don't understand their population dynamics yet :)

in Lithuania it not rarely appears inside of high buildings (indoors), because of the hill-topping behavior probably

That reminds me of the many photos I have seen of Mintho sitting on wooden fences or the walls of buildings. Perhaps they have an affinity to tall, vertical structures - rather like Rhagio or Prosena? :)

This fly was sat on a tall wooden gate which has a Hawthorn hedge ether side with new growths venturing over it. It's access from my roadway to my neighbour whose greenhouse I use! I went to push the gate open when I saw it sat near the edge, it flew and landed again luckily but it was difficult to get pics through the new growth! On the second pic from the front it took off, you can see it's a little stretched, luckliy I got it before it did! :D

BTW Chris, I guess you got my email with the pics?
