Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Tipulidae: Nephrotoma?

Location: Valdelinares, Teruel, NE Spain. 1900 meters above sea.
Habitat: Over a flower, near river with willows.
Date: Yesterday.
Size: about 15-17 mm. long (body).

Female Nephrotoma is corrext, I don' think you can get further with a sure species ID.

Thanks pwalter, but maybe a guess? I can put here the list of all Nephrotoma recorded from Spain, too, if it helps.

Well, problem is that maybe (!) this is a species that could be ID-d by photo, based on colour patterns, but so far as I know very few members actually work with Limoniidae and Tipulidae, and some of them work with the American fauna, so so far we have very few determined Nephrotomas and Tipulas, etc. Guessing would only make sense if for example we had 75% of the Nephrotomas in Europe in our gallery, but we only have few. Maybe in time we will know more and than we can take guesses...

Grrrr. True, This is the biggest problem of many diptera families: the lack of experts.
