I don't know if the feathered legs are a feature exclusive of E. pennipes or could appear in more species...
Location: Valdelinares, Teruel, NE Spain. 1900 meters above sea.
Habitat: Under a flower of Succisa sp. Until four Empis species are common in the flowers of the zone.
Date: Yesterday.
Size: about 7-8 mm.
Thanks
Isidro

Must be another species. I think
E. pennipes also has pennate fore legs (does not appear to be the case in the pictures), is more overall black (not greyish pollinose) and does not have wings coloured in the way. That species is also more slender in built.

One similar species I can exclude (because it does not have completely black legs) is
E. genualis, of which I just saw some Greek specimens.

Thanks Paul. I hope that somebody could identify! I saved a frontal view, and the forelegs are feathered too.

Post that picture, too, then. It might just help.

OK here is it. I don't posted before due to bad quality.
