I am advised that the prey in the attached may be a Sciarid. I know it is not very clear, but can anyone help me further ? Thanks, Mick.

Hi Mick,
though the prey somewhat resembling a fungus gnat I think it is a member of Ptychopteridae. Where was the picture taken?

Thank you xylo, taken in Hampton Court Park (acid grassland) west of London. Mick.

ps. there were plenty of
Ptychoptera contaminata (type) around, so that is a good shout if the antennae look right. M.

Well, the antennae fit well. Especially, the whorled setae on it. Male Ptychopterids have a longer antenna.
