Looks Scathophagidae to my inexperienced eye.

about 1 month ago, early May, Devon England.

But on reflection it probably isn't. If someone could point me to the right family I'll rename the thread and perhaps attract the experts.

No, you're right (the basal pale hairs behind the head are diagnostic of most scathophagids): this is a female Cordylura.
